Camarillo is a city in Ventura County located off the Ventura Freeway (U.S. Route 101) between Oxnard and Thousand Oaks on the Oxnard Plain. The Santa Rosa Valley is to the east. The population was 57,084 as of the 2010 census. Much of the land is zoned for agricultural use creating large areas of open space. Camarillo is home to California State University Channel Islands which is a four year public university with an enrollment of nearly 5,000 students. Camarillo Airport is a 650 acre public airport located in Camarillo, Ventura County which is approximately halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. The airport serves private aircraft exclusively and offers no scheduled commercial service. Before 1970, the airport was Oxnard Air Force Base. The Camarillo Squadron 61 of the California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol is based at the Camarillo Airport. The Commemorative Air Force and its museum are located at the airport. Aircraft include a C-46 China Doll, an F6F Hellcat, a P-51 Mustang, an F8F Bearcat, a Spitfire, a Yak-3, an A6M Zero, and a B-25J.
Camarillo Civil Air Patrol
The Camarillo Airport is home to the Camarillo Civil Air Patrol (CAP) which is officially Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 61. The Civil Air Patrol is the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force and is responsible for performing over 95% of all missing aircraft searches within the Continental United States. The Camarillo CAP also offers an excellent cadet program for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. The CAP was originally established before World War II to patrol the coast for enemy submarines.
KRLA (870 AM) is a major radio station broadcasting a Conservative and Christian news and talk format. The station is located in Glendale, California and serves most of Southern California including the Los Angeles Basin. KRLA (870 AM) is owned by Salem Media Group, formerly Salem Communications, located in Camarillo. The Camarillo Ranch House, built in 1882, is a 6,000 square foot Victorian home located in Camarillo, Ventura County. It is also known as the Adolfo Camarillo and Rancho Calleguas. The house is maintained and operated by the Camarillo Ranch Foundation and is open for docent guided tours most weekends. It is also available for special events such as weddings. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It has been restored and is truly beautiful.

Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum
The Pleasant Valley Historical Society, established in 1967, has operated the Pleasant Valley Museum and Botanical Gardens since 1988. The museum is located at 720 Las Posas Road in Camarillo and is open most weekends. It is a great source of information about the Chumash People and pioneer life in the Camarillo area.
Ventura County Chinese American Association
The Ventura County Chinese American Association (VCCAA), established in 1970, is a non-profit membership organization headquartered in Camarillo that serves all of Ventura County. The association's goals are to preserve the Chinese cultural heritage, language and customs. The organization sponsors the Ventura County Chinese Historical Society, a dance troupe, a youth group, a Chinese language school, a Kung Fu club and much more.
Conejo Creek is a stream that originates in the Simi Hills and then runs from the west end of Thousand Oaks along the Santa Monica Mountains through the east end of Camarillo, and then into the Calleguas Creek, which runs to Mugu Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean. Treated water is discharged into the stream increasing its flow. Recently, a steelhead trout, classified as an endangered fish, was discovered in the Conejo Creek. The area around the Conejo Creek was home to the Chumash Indians for thousands of years before the area was claimed by Spain and later by Mexico.
