Palmdale is an incorporated city in the northern section of
Los Angeles County in the
Antelope Valley and the
High Desert region
of the Mojave Desert. Palmdale is south of
Lancaster, north of the
Angeles National Forest and the
City of Los Angeles, and northwest of the
Santa Clarita Valley and
Lake Los Angeles is directly to the east.
Victor Valley is approximately 53 miles to the east.
Palmdale was first established as an unincorporated town in 1886 and became incorporated in 1962. The population now exceeds 160,000. Palmdale is one of the fastest growing cities in California.

Palmdale Regional Airport
The Palmdale Regional Airport is a joint public and military airport in the City of Palmdale which is in the Antelope Valley section of northern Los Angeles County. It is approximately sixty miles north of
Downtown Los Angeles and seventy miles to
Los Angeles International Airport. The airport was established in 1930 and is jointly operated by the City of Palmdale and the United States Air Force.
United States Air Force Plant 42
United States Air Force Plant 42, also known as Plant 42, was developed between 1935 and 1956 near Palmdale in the Antelope Valley. The facility consists of 5,000 acres. Plant 42 is a United States Government aircraft manufacturing plant owned by the United States Air Force and operated by Wright-Paterson Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base. Plant 42 is also used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Contractors that operate from Plant 42 include Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin. Plant 42 is adjacent to the Palmdale Regional Airport with both sharing a common aircraft runway. Plant 42 is located approximately 60 miles northeast of
Downtown Los Angeles and 23 miles northeast of Edwards Air Force Base.
Palmdale Regional Medical Center
The Palmdale Regional Medical Center, founded in 2010, is a 239 bed private, for profit community hospital in Palmdale, California. The hospital specializes in acute care and has a 35 bed emergency department complete with a heliport. Adjacent to the hospital is a 60,000 square foot medical office tower called Palmdale Medical Plaza. Palmdale Regional Medical Center serves the entire Antelope Valley.
Lake Palmdale, formerly known as Harold Reservoir, is a man-made lake in Palmdale developed in 1924. The lake has a surface area of 586 acres and two small islands. It is approximately 1 mile long and one-half mile wide. The lake serves as a major source of water for the Palmdale Water District and is also used to generate electricity. The Antelope Valley Lake is fed by the California Aqueduct and is part of the California State Water Project. Lake Palmdale has a small pier and is stocked for fishing. Small boats are permitted to be operated by members of the Palmdale Fin and Feather Club.
Desert View Highlands
Desert View Highlands is a census-designated place in the Antelope Valley that is completely surrounded by the City of Palmdale. The population is 2,500.
Leona Valley is a census-designated area in northern Los Angeles County, just west of Palmdale, south of Quartz Hill, at the far west and of the Antelope Valley. Leona Valley is home to both Lake Hughes and Lake Elizabeth. The Angeles National Forest is to the southwest. Leona Valley is known for its wine grapes and cherries. Its population is under 2,000. The original inhabitants were the Tatavian people.
Antelope Valley Country Club
The Antelope Valley Country Club, established in 1954, consists of 149 beautiful acres in central Palmdale. The private golf course was designed by Bill Bell, Sr. and consists of an 18 hole 72 par course with several lakes and lots of trees. The club features tennis, a beautiful pool, a large clubhouse, a game room, a lounge, and excellent banquet and dining facilities. Antelope Valley Country Club is a first class operation.
Rancho Vista Golf Club
The Rancho Vista Golf Club, located in Palmdale, offers residents of Palmdale and Lancaster exceptional golfing and dining. The 18 hole 72 par golf course was designed by Ted Robinson and opened in 2000. Amenities include a clubhouse, a grass tee driving range, putting greens, dining facilities, and beautiful scenery. Memberships are available.
Desert Sands Park
Desert Sands Park is a large community park in Palmdale featuring two tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, baseball, picnic areas, walking trails, and plenty of open space and trees.
William J. McAdam Park
The William J. McAdam Park is a large community park in Palmdale. The popular park features a heated outdoor swimming pool, 3 tennis courts, several group picnic areas, barbeques, a children’s play area, extensive walking paths, the Domenic Massari Gardens, and the Historic Palmdale Schoolhouse.

The Palmdale Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1941, represents the interest of businesses in Palmdale, Lancaster, and the greater Antelope Valley area in northern Los Angeles County. There are more than 500 members in the Palmdale Chamber.

The Palmdale City Library is a full-service library located at 700 East Palmdale Boulevard in Palmdale. The library offers computers, study rooms, tutoring, language courses, a children's area, a teen area, and an adult area.
