Port Hueneme



Port Hueneme is a small beachfront city in Ventura County. At the 2010 census, the population was 21,723. The Pacific Ocean is to the south, the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Construction Center and Port Hueneme Harbor to the west, and Oxnard to the north and east. Malibu is approximately 28 miles to the southeast and Santa Monica is about 46 miles to the southeast. A section of Port Hueneme, which is separated from the main beachfront section, is located north of the Naval facility. The beach is known for its surfing and fishing pier. The Port of Hueneme is the only deep water port between the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of San Francisco. It is jointly operated by the U.S. Navy and Oxnard Harbor District. The major employers are the Navy and Port.

Port Hueneme is included in the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura Metropolitan Area and is located on the Oxnard Plain.

Port Hueneme Pier

The Port Hueneme Pier, originally constructed in 1956, was completely reconstructed in 1999. It provides an excellent location for 24 hour fishing. Views of the coastline and Channel Islands from the pier are quite spectacular. The pier is located at the Hueneme Beach Park.


Oceanview Pavilion - Port Hueneme

Oceanview Pavilion is a performing arts theater located directly across from Hueneme Beach in Port Hueneme, Ventura County. Entertainment offered includes theater, music, dance, and professional sports. The theater seats up to 400 and is available to private parties for a rental fee.


Hueneme Beach Park

The Hueneme Beach Park is a 50 acre ocean front park and is considered by most residents to be the “Pride of Port Hueneme.” The park has excellent picnic facilities including barbecue pits and volleyball courts. The park is also the location of the Port Hueneme Pier which offers 24 hour fishing and great views.


Port Hueneme Historical Museum

The Port Hueneme Historical Museum is located at 220 Market Street in a building constructed in 1925. It was originally the Bank of Hueneme and later became the first City Hall for Port Hueneme before becoming the Port Hueneme Historical Museum. The museum contains historical photographs, artifacts, and information on the history of the city and surrounding area. The museum is open most days and tours can be arranged by appointment.


Canalinos Indians

The Canalinos Indians were part of the Chumash nation and inhabited the area around Port Hueneme in Ventura County extending north and west into the Hope Ranch section of Santa Barbara County.


Berylwood - Port Hueneme

Thomas R. Bard Estate

Berylwood, also commonly known as the Thomas R. Bard Estate, was the home of Thomas R. Bard, a major land owner that was instrumental in the formation and development of Ventura County. The property was leased and later acquired by the U.S. government and is now located within the Naval Base Ventura County. It is used as a conference center.


Port Hueneme Light

Port Hueneme Lighthouse and Promenade

The original 48 foot high Port Hueneme Lighthouse was built in 1874 and replaced in 1941 with the current Art Deco structure. The lighthouse is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and is open for tours several days each month from February through October. In 2007, the beach pedestrian walkway was extended to the lighthouse which is now a very popular destination.


Hueneme Chamber of Commerce

The Hueneme Chamber of Commerce is the voice of the business community in Port Hueneme. Members of the chamber enjoy excellent networking opportunities, a great local directory, educational opportunities, low cost advertising opportunities, and much more. Chamber members are from Port Hueneme, Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo, Westlake Village, and Simi Valley. Joining the chamber is an excellent way to expand your business.


Port Hueneme Library

The Port Hueneme Library, also known as the Ray D. Prueter Library, is a 15,064 square foot Ventura County Library with more than 800,000 books, videos, and other materials. Services include computers, book discussion groups, a children's story time schedule, and a homework center.


Port Hueneme Senior Center

Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center

The Port Hueneme Senior Center, also called the Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center, offers a Senior Nutrition Program for those in need, various classes, and other social programs for seniors. The facility is located next to the Ray Prueter Library and Bubbling Springs Park.


Hueneme Bay Condominiums

Hueneme Bay is a community of 773 age restricted condominiums where one of the residents must be at least 55 years of age. There is a large clubhouse, pool, and spa with many planned activities for the residents.

Bubbling Springs Park is a 21 acre community park in Port Hueneme that features 2 baseball fields, 1 T-ball field, picnic areas, barbeque pits, a children’s play area, restrooms, and lots of grass and trees. The Bubbling Springs Recreational Corridor is a 7 acre walking and bicycle pathway that connects the park to the Hueneme Beach Park.

Seabee Museum

The United States Navy Seabee Museum, established in 1947 in Port Hueneme, is the second oldest official U.S. Navy museum. The mission of the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum is to select, collect, preserve, and display historic material relating to the history of the Naval Construction Force, better known as the SEABEES, and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps. The Seabee Museum is part of the Naval Base of Ventura County (NBVC). The Seabee Museum and Store is open to the public. The museum is located at 1001 Addor Street in Port Hueneme, Ventura County. Tours can be arranged for groups larger than ten people.
